President of Alexandria University Dr. Roshdy Zahran held a meeting with university students to discuss Alexandria University history and its African and world place. Dr. Zahran indicated that AU is the second oldest university in Egypt and one of the largest where 185,000 students are studying including 6000 foreign students. Au also has 9000 faculty member and hires more than 14,000 employee.

Dr. Zahran added that AU is one of the best 4% universities in the world according to the latest report issued by the Center of World Universities Ranking that has assessed more than 25000 universities around the world. Alexandria University came among the best 12 university at Arab counties level and within the best 15 universities in Africa. He stated also that AU has a branch in Matroh and two branches in Africa in Chad and South Sudan.

He also spoke about the provided opportunities for the students to participate in international conferences and contests as well as available programs via the center that was established to develop student skills as a preparation for labor market.

The Rector called the attendants to be inform their colleagues about the available chances of skills developments and various activities that should enhance their competitive skills.

This came during the meeting with the first batch of the summer club camp led by Prof. Dr. Alaa Ramadan the Deputy of the faculty of Science and attended by Prof. Dr. Hesham Gaber the University Deputy for Education and Student Affairs.

Prof. Dr. Hesham Gaber stated that the camp aims to provide prober environment for the students to communicate, activities involvement and exchange experience In addition to meet university and political leaderships outside study halls.

Dr. Gaber indicated that the education is one of university life sides with other activities, skills and experience through contacting with faculty members. The university role is to produce an educated graduates able to compete in the labor market. He also stressed the importance of students’ participation in volunteering work through the university initiative that will be announced soon to serve the Alexandrian community. 

Dr. Seddik Abdel Salam, Vice President of Alexandria University for Graduate Studies and Research declared that the announcement for the fourth year 2015/2016 of the Fifth plan 2012/2017 of the competitive system was extended till 15 August 2016 via the website.

All uploaded papers should be submitted as hard copy to the General Administration for Missions. The announcement stated that: Prof. Dr. Ashraf El Shiehy, Minister of Higher Education adopted the decisions taken by the Executive Committee for Missions as following:

1- Application for missions will be open till 15/8/2016 at 03:00 PM.

2- Applicants for mission must be committed to language level determined by the foreign universities.

3- Applicant less than 50 years old is preferred.

4- Applicant should be enrolled for PhD. If not, the duration of Master’s degree should not exceed 3 years.

The Graduate Studies and Research Council at Alexandria University held a celebration to honor Dr. Seddik Abdel Salam the University Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research for reaching retirement age in presence of Dr. Roshdy Zahran the University President and University Deputies.

Appreciation was expressed for Dr. Seddik contributions in university service and scientific research during his work and his achievements to improve education system and regulations of graduate studies for student benefit and in accordance with latest international systems. The attendants also appreciated his constant efforts to support young facultymembers by providing travel opportunities to study abroad in distinguished universities. Dr. Seddik has been usually encouraging cooperation with world universities and creating common degrees in various disciplines that serves the development objectives of Egypt in addition to promoting young researchers and international publication, establishing research labs and supporting research projects related to community issues and industry problems believing on scientific research importance in enhancing the national economy and achieving comprehensive renaissance in Egypt.

 

As a support for the national initiative launched by Mr. President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Matroh governorate held a conference to support . the conference was held in Matroh Governorate with headquarter participation of Dr. Ashraf El-Shiehy the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Matroh Governor Mr. Alaa Abu Zaid, President of Alexandria University Dr. Roshdy Zahran, Dr. Mohamed Abaza the University Vice President for Matroh Branch and Mr. Sayed El-Eshmawy the Executive Director of Tahya-Misr Fund in addition to

The Minister Dr. El-Sheihy stated that the higher education is the basis of improvement and Matroh University will inaugurated in 2017 as governmental university. He also announced about scholarship programs that will be allocated in private universities for Matroh students and other border governorates.

Matroh Governor Mr. Abu Zaid commended the national role of Matroh people through supporting the political leadership and providing national sharing in Tahya-Misr Fund. He also commended the involvement of businessmen, civil sector institutions and community leaders in supporting the Fund.

The Council of Graduate Studies and Research of Alexandria University, the headed by Prof. Dr. Seddik Abdel Salam has recently adopted a proposal to amend the administrative and financial regulation of the International Program at Faculty of Medicine to include postgraduate programs within the current program in order to allow chances for various nationalities to complete their studies in the faculty. This came in accordance with university policy of increasing educational services and higher education opportunities for surrounding countries and attracting foreign students to study at the university.

The Council also adopted the new established Postgraduate Program (International resident doctor & International Fellowship) in the International and the French Program at Faculty of Medicine.

 The Council also adopted the cooperation agreement between the Faculty of Medicine and El Salamah Hospital in Kuwait to exchange experiences, cooperation and training in the medical field.

The Council also approved the draft of cooperation protocol between the Faculty of Education at Alexandria University (French Language Section) and the French Institute in Egypt for cooperation to hold workshops and continuous training aiming to improve the level of French Language of students.
